A happy mood and a sense of productive effort are the hallmarks of a healthy person. Are you looking to improve your health? Before addressing food, fitness, and health hacks,
ask yourself these 5 Guiding Questions. I use them to jumpstart a coaching journey with my clients, and they can prompt your own self-guided path.
1. Daily Clarity
How do you want to spend this day? Take a journal or a note app on your phone and write it down each morning. Consistently giving yourself this daily prompt before the day begins can greatly assist your focus. With practice, you can learn to be realistic with your daily strategy. You will benefit from being productive and accomplished without the feeling of defeat that comes with overreaching. You may find that specifying "how" you want to navigate your day will move you forward more than the goal itself.
2. Weekly Focus
What is your motivation this week? A slightly longer view keeps your purpose clear and can fuel your drive. Adjust for clarity when needed, but keep each week’s topic of motivation consistent (no jumping from topic to topic). You may feel free to introduce new topics of focus from week to week, though.
3. Letting Go
What do I want to leave behind? Daily or weekly, reflect on what no longer serves you. You need to make space for what currently captures your heart. This is a way to honor and trust your passions.
4. Overcome Resistance by Naming It
Are your obstacles external? Do they stem from people, circumstances, or life challenges? Are these challenges truly unchangeable, or can you shift your perspective? Stay open and ask more questions.
Are your obstacles internal? Are they rooted in self-perception or limiting beliefs? Most of us find it easy to blame ourselves, but is that a useful strategy? Instead of self-blame, consider that you may be able to reframe a situation. See what happens when you approach it with curiosity.
5. Final Question
Are you willing to let go of habits, routines, or commitments that no longer align with your purpose? Be willing to take out the trash—it’s not doing you any good. There is no future in it. 😎
Real growth happens when we clarify, commit, and clear the path ahead. Remind yourself to be curious. Start asking and start moving forward.
